Thailand mutual fund industry ranked the third of the world
On May 17, 2013, the SEC announced the accomplishment of Thailand’s asset
management industry receiving the overall grade of B, ranking the third in the
Morningstar’s Global Fund Investor Experience Study 2013 which measured the
experiences of mutual fund investors in 24 countries. The study showed that
Thailand’s asset management industry has maintained high standards in the area
of regulation and taxation, as well as made better improvement in the area of

SEC opens house at Money Expo Bangkok 2013
The SEC executives team led by Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak
welcomed Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong and top
executives in the capital market industry at SEC booth. The booth is presented
under the theme “SEC Open house” to promote financial planning and the SEC’s
roles among the public in Money Expo Bangkok 2013 at Challenger 1-2, IMPACT
Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani.
Thailand Corporate Governance Assessment Report on the Observance of
Standards and Codes (CG-ROSCs)
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong, with warm
welcomed by SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak, Acting Country
Director for the World Bank Thailand Constantine Chikosi, along with many top
executives in the capital market industry, presided over and delivered a
keynote speech on “Corporate Governance Development in the Thai Capital
Market”. The seminar was co-organized by the SEC, the World Bank, the Thai
Listed Companies Association on April 25, 2013 at Intercontinental Hotel,
Bangkok.
SEC co-sponsors national artist exhibition
The SEC co-sponsors the Paintings and Poetries of Angkarn Kallayanapong
Exhibition in remembrance of the late National Artist of 1989 (Literature) and
the S.E.A. Write Award winner of 1986. The exhibition runs from March 28 to
April 30, 2013 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC).
CEO Forum II
The SEC and the Thai listed Companies Association co-hosted the second CEO
Forum on the topic, “IFRS and Financial Reporting for Investors,” featuring a
keynote address by Mr. Hans Hoogervorst (the second from left) Chairman of the
International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), and discussions among local
and international experts on March 8, 2013 at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit
Hotel.
Shareholders’ right protection volunteers at AGM
SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak, the Thai Investors Association
(TIA) Chairman Mongkol Leelatham (left) and the Thai Listed Companies
Association (TLCA) Director Worawoot Ounjai (right) witnessed the pledge of 40
TIA volunteers to protect shareholders’ rights at annual general shareholders’
meetings (AGM) of listing firms, as part of the AGM Checklist Campaign, at the
SEC Office on February 28, 2013.
Thai mutual funds in global context
SEC Secretary- General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak gave a keynote speech on
“Developing Thai Mutual Funds in the Global Financial Context” at an academic
seminar titled, “Solving Mutual Fund Puzzles: Hopes and Realities” organized by
the School of Development Economics, the National Institute of Development
Administration (NIDA) to present research papers on mutual fund market
developments, at the SET Building on February 14, 2013.
Preparing for AGM
SEC Secretary-General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak gave a keynote address at a
seminar on “Preparation of Audit Committees for Annual General Shareholders’
Meeting” to share experts’ knowledge and experiences on financial statements
and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) with audit
committees of listed firms. The seminar was jointly held by the SEC, the SET
and PricewaterhouseCoopers ABAS Ltd. at the SET on February 13, 2012.
Heads and executives of the SEC and capital market regulators in the
Mekong region visited Major Cineplex Group Plc.
Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak, with heads and senior managements of capital
market regulators in the Mekong region, namely Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and
Vietnam, paid a visit to Major Cineplex Group Plc on February 8, 2013 at the
Siam Paragon, Bangkok. The group was greeted by Mr. Vicha Poolvaraluck,
Chairman of Major Cineplex Group and his senior executives. Mr. Vicha also
shared his experiences on the role of the capital market in promoting the
group’s business. The visit took place on the sidelines of the first meeting on
Mekong capital market cooperation which was hosted by the SEC Thailand.
Enhancing Mekong Region Cooperation
The SEC, led by Secretary-General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak, hosted the
first multilateral executive meeting with capital market regulators from
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam to strengthen cooperation for development
of Great Mekong capital markets, at Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on February 8,
2013.
Capital market alliance promotes real sector growth
The SEC and seven allies from public and private sectors officially launched
the second Pride of the Provinces project to further educate business operators
across the country about fundraising through the capital market and encourage
them to take advantage of the channel for their business growth. Interior
Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan presided over the launch together with top
executives from the alliance – the National Science and Technology Development
Agency, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, the
Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Investment Banking Club and participating
approved auditors – at the SEC Office on February 4, 2013.
CSR Direction 2013
SEC Assistant Secretary-General Waratchaya Srimachand shared SEC direction
on corporate social responsibility (CSR) at a seminar on “CSR &
Sustainability in 2013,” co-hosted by Corporate Social Responsibility Institute
(CSRI) under the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), Thaipat Institute and the
SEC, at the Professor Sangvien Indaravijaya Auditorium, the Stock Exchange of
Thailand building on January 31, 2013.
Disclosure seminar for listed firms
The SEC held a seminar for listed companies on effective information
disclosure and preparation of investors-friendly analysis on financial
statements to update listed firms’ knowledge on disclosure of annual
registration statements (Form 56-1). The panelists were SEC Assistant
Secretary-General Waratchaya Srimachand (center), SEC Corporate Monitoring
Director Anek Yooyuen (right), and Dr. Sanskrit Vijitlekakarn (left),

Driving the integration of ASEAN capital markets
SEC Secretary-General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak gave a keynote address on
“Driving the Integration of ASEAN Capital Markets” at a seminar hosted by
Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services and TRIS Rating Co., Ltd., featuring
benefits of integrating debt markets under the cooperation of ASEAN capital
market regulators, on January 24, 2013.

SEC Secretary-General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak presented the Growth and
Prosperity of Thailand book – highlights of the Thai capital market’s
two-decade achievements in promoting national growth – to the Government for
distribution to international economic and business organizations, at the
Government House on January 14, 2013
SEC announces strategic plan
SEC Secretary-General Voralpol Socatiyanurak and top executives announced
four key strategies, highlighting six initiatives to be launched in 2013, at a
press conference at the SEC office - on January 14, 2013. The strategies aim to
reach out in response to the needs of all business sectors and investors,
enhance business competitiveness and encourage economic sustainability.
SEC signs multilateral MOU for human resources development
SEC Secretary-General Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak signed a multilateral
memorandum of understanding (MOU) with executive officers of the Bank of
Thailand, the Office of Insurance Commission and the Stock Exchange of Thailand
to promote cooperation in developing staff competency and sharing of knowledge
and experiences in the financial sector, on January 11, 2013.
