SEC awarded Good Corporate Citizen Plague of Honor 2023

Tuesday 4 April 2023 | No. 60 / 2023

Bangkok, 4 April 2023 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been awarded a Good Corporate Citizen Plague of Honor 2023 in recognition of its outstanding dedication to morality, ethics, and good governance in its administration. The award was presented by Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, the Second Vice-President of the Senate, at the awards ceremony held at the Parliamentary Building today.

The Good Corporate Citizen Project is organized by the Subcommittee on Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation of the Senate, with the objectives of recognizing and honoring organizations in the public and private sectors and civil society that markedly adhere to the principles of morality, ethics and good governance in their operation, creating a pool of “good, competent and brave” people as well as opportunities for a sustainable growth. The organization leaders can be the role models that play significant roles in promoting activities that cultivate “good people” in the society and can be the exemplary leaders who can provide guidance to other organizations in the aspects of human competency and ethics development, enhancing the overall concrete results of the endeavor. The 72 awardees of 2023 consist of 61 organizations from the public sector, 4 from the private sector, 4 from the community sector and 3 from the civil society sector.

The SEC has in place two operational directions that reflect the objectives of the award received as follows:

1. Cultivating good governance and “good people” through establishment of the Working Group on Transparency as well as policies and measures to drive integrity and transparency in practice. In achieving the goals in this front, awareness and knowledge about good governance was enhanced and incorporated into the SEC work processes. Innovations for transparency, change-driving through change agents and data-driven governance were encouraged to nurture continuity and sustainability. In addition, to encourage innovative ideas, methods and procedures for greater work efficiency and prepare SEC employees for changes, the Innovative Organization Plan was adopted with development of 4Cs in essence: commitment, culture, capabilities, and co-creation. Digital technology was also used to upgrade work processes to enable provision of services with enhanced convenience and less burden, in response to stakeholders’ needs;

2. Promoting social and environmental sustainability, under the organization’s ESG-focus strategic direction, through driving the “SDGs in Action” in the implementation of various projects, e.g., the Capital Market Governance Promotion Initiative, in Celebration of the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s Coronation (the “Initiative”) and the SEC employee’s innovative project, the “SEC Zero Waste” by 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Moreover, in an effort to push forward ESG-driven business undertakings in the capital market, the SEC emphasized Corporate Governance Code: CG Code of listed companies, Investment Governance Code: I-Code for institutional investors and ESG information disclosure of listed companies through “One Report”.

Ms. Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol, SEC Secretary-General said, “The SEC has set a 3-year human resource development plan for staff at all levels to enhance their competencies, knowledge, and skills, both in academic and behavioral dimensions, with a view to strengthening effectiveness of their performance. SEC staff is encouraged to adhere to the organization’s core values “Open, Insightful, Cooperative and Integrity” and, with the organization’s management as leaders of initiatives and role models, to engage in the activities that contribute to the society, particularly those with environmental conservation goals, so as to cultivate awareness of dedication and devotion for social causes.”

The awards and recognition the SEC received in the past that reflect the organization’s adherence to morality, ethics and good governance are, for instance, 1) the 2022 assessment result of the Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA), 2) the 9th and 10th NACC Integrity Awards of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), 3) the 2020 “Model Government Building in Wastewater Management Award” from the Ministry of National Resources and Environment, 4) a certificate for “Carbon Offsetting Activities Through Carbon Neutral Events” in the “Hundred Hearts United For Global Warming Mitigation” campaign in 2020, 5) a certificate for  “Carbon Neutral Organization” in 2020. Those awards and recognition are cases of achievements and good practices for reaching the SDG goals (SDG Good Practices, Success Stories, and Lessons Learned in the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda) that can be shared with the countries, organizations, agencies, and the public interested in propelling sustainable development.
