SEC files criminal complaint against ex-trader of derivatives agent for front running

Monday 17 August 2015 | No. 96 / 2015

Bangkok, August 17, 2015 ? The SEC filed a criminal complaint against Parin Pruksawan for committing front running in the Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) with the Economic Crime Suppression Division of the Royal Thai Police (ECD Police).

The SEC found that during December 17, 2013 ? January 9, 2014, Parin, then a trader of DBS Vickers Securities (Thailand) Co., Ltd., had front run his clients? futures trading orders through an account linked to him at another broker for his personal gain.  This caused financial damages to his clients.

His actions were in violation of Sections 145(3) and (4) of the Derivatives Act B.E. 2546 (2003). The SEC therefore filed criminal complaint against him with the ECD Police for further legal proceedings.  Automatically, Parin is now barred from serving as capital market personnel or as director of any issuing and listed company.

The SEC?s investigation was based on primary information from the Stock Exchange of Thailand together with DBS Vickers Securities (Thailand)?s  report submitted to the SET on irregularity of some futures trading price in TFEX as sold by the company?s clients in January 2014.

In any case, filing a criminal complaint commences the criminal justice administration whereby the court will judge the case accordingly.
