Monday 27 January 2020 | No. 15 / 2020

Bangkok, 27 January 2020 – The SEC will participate in the “Central Bank and Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) Forum 2020” and the “Global Funding and Financing (GFF) Summit 2020” to promote Thailand’s sustainable finance roadmap and exchange views on the mutual fund industry between Thailand and Luxembourg. The events will take place in Luxembourg during 28-30 January 2020.

SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol and SEC delegates will share Thailand’s sustainable finance roadmap amid the context of Asian peers during SEC participation in the “Central Bank and Sovereign Wealth Fund Forum 2020.” The Secretary-General will join the panel discussion on Green Finance, as invited by Deutsche Börse Global, and attend the “Global Funding and Financing Summit 2020” with the SEC team.

On this occasion, SEC Assistant Secretary-General Jomkwan Kongsakul and the SEC team will visit Mr. Claude Marx, Director-General of the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), the Luxembourg financial regulator, with whom SEC has been cooperating in exchange of information related to supervision of asset management companies and mutual funds since 2012. Both parties will discuss and share views on the mutual fund industry in respective countries as well as opportunities and challenges of financial technology and issues on financial sustainability. A proposal on the framework of information exchange and capacity building for FinTech development and sustainable finance may also be raised for discussion during the summit.

Furthermore, SEC Secretary-General and the SEC team are scheduled to make a field visit and have a meeting with the management team of Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX) regarding the information platform established by Luxembourg Stock Exchange and entirely dedicated to sustainability-focused financial instruments such as bonds and funds to facilitate information access for investors. SEC is planning to develop an information platform for such products in Thailand as part of the initiatives under SEC Thailand’s sustainable finance roadmap. The meeting with LGX management will include a discussion on the possibility of technical assistance and capacity building to support SEC’s roadmap in establishing an ecosystem for fundraising and investment that will promote sustainable finance development.
