The Roles of the SEC
The SEC missions are to develop the Thai capital market to be key mechanism driving Thailand’s sustainable economic growth, strengthen capital market competitiveness and build linkage between business and capital market sectors to promote distribution of wealth and be in preparation for aged-society.
SEC protects investors by:
• Supervising listed company to disclose correct and sufficient information to the general public, enhance listed company’s good corporate governance and protecting shareholders when there is takeover of listed company;
• Supervising securities operators, including securities company, asset management company and investor contact to have qualifications and standards as specified; and
• Sanctioning those who violate Securities and Exchange Act B.E. 2535, for example, insider trading, providing incorrect or falsified document to the public, dishonest acts of listed company’s executives, unlicensed securities/derivatives business.
