SEC instructs digital asset business operators providing services for Worldcoin (WLD) coins to alert clients after iris scanning suspended

Monday 24 November 2025 | No. 294 / 2025

Bangkok, 24 November 2025 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has instructed digital asset business operators providing services for Worldcoin (WLD) coins to communicate clearly with their clients and act primarily with regard for client interests and impacts.

Today, the Office of the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) ordered service providers and entities involved in iris data collection to suspend or cease collection of personal data through iris scanning immediately, and delete or destroy any iris data and personal data already collected to protect the public’s personal data. Additionally, such service providers and entities are prohibited from using such personal data improperly. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society added that WLD coins have been traded globally before the iris scanning launch in Thailand. This PDPC suspension order applies only to iris scanning activities.

Digital asset businesses may continue providing WLD coin trading and exchange services, and they must maintain clear communication with their clients through various channels, including display trading alerts about WLD coins on their platforms. The SEC also emphasizes that digital asset business operators must prioritize the interests and potential impacts on their clients.

The investors are advised to research and follow updates from government agencies and digital asset operators and exercise caution when using services from unlicensed digital asset business operators, as they will not receive legal protection and are at risk of being scammed, as well as exposed to money laundering risks. A list of licensed business operators is available at www.sec.or.th and via SEC Check First application, while a list of unauthorized individuals outside the SEC supervision is available at Investor Alert on the SEC website via https://market.sec.or.th/public/idisc/th/InvestorAlert.
