The Responsible Voices for Finfluencer project, to be jointly implemented by the three regulatory agencies, aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of finfluencers in the financial, investment, and insurance sectors, enabling them to deliver information to their followers more appropriately. This initiative is intended to enhance finfluencers’ provision of information with responsibility, taking into account the impacts that may arise, as well as to raise awareness on the matter among business operators engaging finfluencers for their communications, through collaborations with the related associations to set standards for providing financial, investment, and insurance information and knowledge, which will, in turn, benefit the society and the public at large.
Prof. Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Ph.D., SEC Secretary-General, stated: "Because finfluencers usually influence investors’ thinking and decision-making through their use of social media platforms to provide financial and investment information in an easy-to-understand and engaging manner, they therefore play a significant role in investors’ decision making for choices of financial and investment products and services, particularly those new-generation investors, who usually feel a sense of closeness and trust in the advice they receive from finfluencers they follow, although they do not have direct interaction with them. Therefore, as a regulatory agency, we recognize that the rapidly growing popularity of finfluencers necessitates responsible information provision to reinforce investor and public protection mechanisms in an integrated way."
Ms. Chayanin Kerdpholngarm, Ph.D. OIC Deputy Secretary-General for Strategy and Technology, said: “Today's “Responsible Voices” project, Class 1, marks another important step in the collaboration among the three financial regulatory agencies of the country. This initiative was created to address the issue of miscommunication of financial, investment, and insurance information that may lead to public misunderstandings. Moreover, the project’s objective is to promote proper knowledge and understanding among financial influencers, the influential persons for public opinions and decision-making nowadays. As the participants in this training are experts in finance and investment with a large follower base, it will be a good opportunity for everyone to gain new perspectives on insurance, as a financial tool for risk management, about which the communications should be conducted with enhanced accuracy, accessibility, and responsibility.”
Participants who have passed the screening and selection process for this project will play a crucial role in conveying and expanding the knowledge gained to the public through their convenient and reliable channels, thus enabling the public to understand and make use of insurance products more effectively. Furthermore, the Responsible Voices project will serve as an important forum for building a collaborative network between the public sector and content creators in the endeavor to promote knowledge sharing and cooperations towards the enhanced standards for accurate, clear, and responsible financial information communications, which will benefit the public and the nation’s economy in the long run.”
Ms. Chayawadee Chai-anant, Ph.D. BOT Assistant Governor for Corporate Relations Group and Spokesperson, noted: “Finfluencers are a vital force in making economic, financial, and monetary policy matters more understandable and accessible. However, in this era of rapid information flows and amid competitions in delivering information to the followers and the public, even the slightest discrepancy can impact confidence in the financial system. The Responsible Voices project was created with the intention to promote and support all finfluencers to impart financial knowledge creatively, comprehensively, and responsibly, aiming to build financial resilience in the Thai society, in which a solid foundation of financial understandings will contribute to the strong and sustainable long-term growth of the country's economy.”
On the first day of the project’s training, Class 1, a seminar titled "Finfluencer Perspectives, Financial Responsibility, and Promotion of Responsible Communications on Financial Information" was held, in which representatives from the three regulatory agencies have shared their thoughts on the current situations of financial, investment, and insurance information perception among Thai people, today’s challenges faced by finfluencers, and the role of regulatory agencies in leading the collaborative efforts to create a society of responsible information sharing.
The project’s Class 1 will cover three sessions: on 9 May 2025, at the SEC office; 15 May 2025, at the OIC office; and 21 May 2025, at the BOT office. Each session will feature lectures and workshops conducted by experts from all three agencies, with the focus on the following content, i.e., appropriate communications of financial, investment, and insurance content; updates on the financial, investment and insurance situations for further content development; and provision of information on the ongoing issues of misunderstanding. Participants who meet the specified criteria will receive certificates of attendance.
