SEC awarded highest compliance level under Privacy Maturity Model & Index assessment at “Data Privacy Day” event

Bangkok, 6 February 2025 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently been recognized as a public sector organization that achieved the highest maturity level in the assessment of the status and implementation of personal data protection measures under the 2024 Privacy Maturity Model & Index Assessment. This year, 142 public and private sector entities participated in the project’s 10-area assessment.

The SEC, represented by Mrs. Sittasri Nakasiri, Assistant Secretary-General (Strategy and Planning) as a Data Protection Officer (DPO), attended the “Data Privacy Day 2025” event organized by the Office of the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) and accepted an award for achieving the highest maturity level in the assessment of the status and implementation of personal data protection measures under the 2024 Privacy Maturity Model & Index Assessment. The SEC was among 142 public and private agencies that took part in the assessment.
 
The SEC is one of the government agencies that obtained the highest achievement level from the assessment in 10 areas of personal data protection implementation, e.g., Oversight, Policies and Procedures and Training and Awareness, etc.
 
The “Data Privacy Day 2025” event was organized to emphasize the importance of, raise the awareness about, and strengthen Thailand’s personal data protection implementation to be on par with the international standards. Presided over by Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, with his keynote speech on “The Crucial Role of Personal Data Protection in Fostering Thailand’s Digital Economy”, the event brought together over 1,000 participants to the event venue, the Vayupak Convention Center, Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Center, Chaeng Watthana, Bangkok, on 28 January 2025.
 
In the event, the SEC also arranged for a booth exhibition to demonstrate collaborations, in the area of personal data protection, among three regulators in the financial sector, i.e., the Bank of Thailand, the SEC, and the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) in the endeavor to work with the PDPC to facilitate financial sector’s compliance with the Privacy Data Protection laws, to bring about desirable outcomes in line with the intent of the laws spelled out in the MoU on the protection of personal data in the financial sector. In the SEC booth, information about the SEC roles, responsibilities and services were also provided for the event participants.
