SEC participates in the IOSCO Board Meeting in Madrid, Spain

Bangkok, 3 November 2025 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) participated in the 3rd Board Meeting of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) for 2025, held in Madrid, Spain, in its capacity as an IOSCO Board member, to discuss important issues regarding international capital market regulation, as well as to jointly contribute to the establishment of policies and priorities of IOSCO’s operation.

Professor Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Ph.D., SEC Secretary-General and IOSCO Board member, together with Mrs. Sittasri Nakasiri, SEC Assistant Secretary-General, attended the 3rd IOSCO Board Meeting in Madrid, Spain from 27 to 28 October 2025. The meeting addressed major global topics, such as market movements, significant events and their impacts on capital markets, development guidelines of member countries, the use of technology to enhance supervisory efficiency (Supervisory Technology: SupTech), international standards for digital asset regulation, and the tokenization progress in various countries. Discussions also covered investor protection for retail investors, emerging risks and supervisory standards for securities companies, regional regulatory approaches, and collaboration between IOSCO and other international organizations.

Additionally, the SEC Secretary-General held a bilateral discussion with Ms. Julia Leung, Chair of the IOSCO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee and CEO of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, to exchange views on regional regulation. Topics included investor protection, regulatory standard enhancement, and collaborative frameworks for future product and infrastructure development, with the shared goal to enhance regional competitiveness and support Thai capital market development in line with the SEC's plans.


Note: * In November 2024, Professor Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Ph.D., SEC Secretary-General, was elected as an IOSCO Board member, representing the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC)  with a term during 2024–2026.
