BEDO joins hands with SEC in driving biodiversity conservation operation for business sustainability

Friday 7 March 2025 | No. 52 / 2025

Mrs. Suwanna Tiarasuwan, Director General of the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (BEDO), and Mrs. Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Secretary-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation, between BEDO and the SEC, to drive and promote contributions for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The MoU was also signed by Mr. Thawatchai Pittayasophon, SEC Deputy Secretary-General, and Mr. Suwee Ngandee, BEDO Deputy Director General, as witnesses.

Mrs. Suwanna Tiarasuwan stated: “BEDO is an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment that conducts the operations on conservation and utilization of biodiversity, aiming to promote and encourage all sectors to participate in the responsible operations for biodiversity, particularly the Thai capital market business sector whose business operations rely on biodiversity, directly and indirectly. The collaboration with the SEC, therefore, is considered another driving force for the business sector in the Thai capital market to see the importance of biodiversity, integrate biodiversity into their organization’s strategies and implementation in a practical way, disclose information on biodiversity and promote financial and economic mechanisms including incentive measures to encourage conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the Thai capital market.”

Mrs. Pornanong Budsaratragoon remarked: “The SEC has designated sustainability issues, which include biodiversity, as one of the SEC’s key goals and strategies, with a view to promoting and encouraging listed companies to realize and understand the importance of this issue. So far, the SEC has implemented various projects to enhance knowledge about biodiversity through training, seminars, production of communication media and development of tools to support the achievement of biodiversity targets set out in the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) in which listed companies can voluntarily take part.

“The consistent approach and operational framework for sustainability of BEDO and the SEC have led to this collaboration through the MoU signing. This marks an important step towards driving and promoting participation in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, as well as strengthening the capacity in this area to produce tangible results that will create sustainable benefits for the capital market and Thailand.”
