Tuesday 7 November 2023 | No. 206 / 2023

Bangkok, 7 November 2023The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched the Public Empowerment through Capital Market Knowledge Initiative, teaming up with businesses in the capital market to enhance financial literacy and investment skills for investors and the public. The initiative is part of the Financial Literacy Development Action Plan for the years 2022-2027 under the Ministry of Finance. The SEC has invited securities companies and digital asset business operators to participate in the project since July this year.

From July to September 2023, business operators showed interest in joining the project and submitted activity reports on the promotion of financial knowledge, understanding, and skill development in finance and investment for investors and the public. In the third quarter of the year, seven participants given recognition and awarded certificates are the following companies:

          1) KGI Securities (Thailand) PCL.
          2) Muang Thai Life Insurance PCL.
          3) GMO-Z Com Securities (Thailand) PCL.
          4) Beyond Securities PCL.
          5) Trinity Securities Co., Ltd.
          6) Tisco Asset Management Co., Ltd.
          7) Wealth Magik Securities Co., Ltd.

Capital market is an important venue for raising funds and savings, especially long-term savings for post-retirement as Thailand has entered the state of aging society. Our cooperation to synergize our resources for disseminating investment knowledge to the Thai public across all aspects and age groups is attracting support and endorsement from all sectors. The SEC recognizes and commends businesses that value the importance and benefits of providing knowledge to the public on a larger scale,” said SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon.

The knowledge-building activities conducted by participating businesses for the Public Empowerment through Capital Market Knowledge Initiative, as submitted in their activity reports to the SEC, are a means of imparting financial and investment knowledge to the public apart from the businesses’ normal product sales practices.

The knowledge-building activities were conducted in various formats, including academic seminar, production of financial and investment knowledge materials for online dissemination, event organization for the project to promote and support financial planning and saving of the young generations, and development of fundamental financial knowledge courses to enhance the quality of company personnel, etc. Each of these activities has led to further sharing of valuable information and knowledge to the public on a wider scale, reaching a diverse range of target groups, from the youth and students to first jobbers and retiring workforces. This is reflected in the substantial number of over 200,000 persons accessing such knowledge through online channels.

The first phase of the Initiative will run until 31 March 2024, and the list of business participants in the next quarter will be announced on 29 December 2023. Businesses interested in joining the Initiative or organizing activities to promote financial and investment knowledge to the public can notify their intention and submit their financial knowledge activity reports to the SEC now until 31 March 2024 via email: smarttoinvest@sec.or.th.
