SEC and SET convene to discuss directions for strengthening supervision on capital market business undertakings

Bangkok, 5 August 2023 - The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC Board) held a meeting with the Stock Exchange of Thailand board members (SET Governors) to discuss directions for strengthening supervision on capital market business operation to enhance investors’ trust and confidence. During the meeting, the participants exchanged views, lessons learned, directions, and supervisory measures to prevent widespread impacts on the stakeholders, after which a resolution for close and continuous collaboration between the two organizations was agreed upon.


The SEC Board and the SET Governors met on 3 August 2023 to discuss and exchange perspectives as well as viewpoints in relation to cooperative working process between the two organizations with an aim to strengthen supervision on capital market business operation. Lessons learned from both organizations’ experience on cases with widespread impacts on the stakeholders were also shared for reviews and revisions in going forward. In this connection, related supervisory policies and measures were endorsed by both parties.

“This collaborative meeting is a good opportunity for reinforcing partnership between the SEC and the SET at the policy making level, after which the meetings for management and operating staff levels will be followed. The SEC and the SET are committed to working together to further develop the capital market, find solutions to the problems so as to improve efficiency, and put in place investor protection mechanisms for investors’ confidence,” said Mr. Thawatchai Pittayasophon, SEC Deputy Secretary-General, Acting Secretary-General.

“The SET has continuously and actively worked in collaboration with the SEC over the years. This meeting has enabled us to get insights into the encountered problems and obstacles, which in turn can be taken into account for the formulation of and improvement in the supervisory directions and mechanisms for further development of the capital market. The SET will continue working in partnership with the SEC in the future endeavors,” said Dr. Pakorn Peetathawatchat, SET President.
