SEC Thailand participates in IOSCO Annual Meeting in Greece

Bangkok, 31 May 2024The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently attended the 49th International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Annual Meeting and the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) Public Conference in Athens, Greece.These forums facilitated discussions on critical issues and the sharing of experiences on the regulation and development of capital markets. Participants included senior executives of regulatory agencies, international organizations, and leaders in the business sectors.

Mrs. Pornanong Budsaratragoon, SEC Secretary-General, along with the SEC delegates attended the 49th IOSCO Annual Meeting and HCMC Public Conference from 26 to 29 May 2024. During this event, the IOSCO members shared perspectives and operating guidelines on critical issues. These included sustainable finance in accordance with disclosure standards, consistent and comparable perspectives and practices and the supervision of artificial intelligence (AI) for financial service provider, as well as the management of emerging risks associated with new technologies, such as online scam and harm, and the impact of AI on financial system stability. The IOSCO members agreed to promote mutual cooperation in information sharing and capacity building among regulatory agencies and all sectors of capital markets.

In addition, SEC Secretary-General participated as a key panellist in a session of regulatory workshop on the topic, Emerging Markets Experiences in Developing Sustainability-Related Bond Markets.She presented the development of sustainability-themed bonds and a national taxonomy that emphasized the alignment with the international standard. She also emphasized the importance of promoting Transition Finance that will help economies to reach the Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions target and the sustainable growth of the Thai capital market and economic system. With significant interest of the meeting attendees, this session could also promote the visibility of Thailand’s bond market developments towards sustainability in the international markets.
