Prior to the on-site inspection, the SEC communicated concerns with the venue owner and the event organizer, resulting in suspension of seven exhibitors’ activities. Today, during the inspection, 16 more exhibitors were found to be engaging in securities, derivatives and digital asset businesses without proper license. The SEC therefore notified the event organizer to close the booths and suspend the activities of the 16 exhibitors, which may constitute a legal violation, and gathered more evidence. If any activities liable to be in violation of the laws enforced by the SEC are found, a legal action may be pursued, which may lead to imprisonment and fines. If such activities contravene other laws, the SEC will collaborate with relevant authorities to take further action.
Mrs. Waratchya Srimachand, SEC Deputy Secretary-General, said: “The SEC urges the event organizer to exercise caution when allowing unlicensed business operators to set up booths at the event, including platform service providers and those interested in partnering with the event, as this may inadvertently facilitate illegal activities. Likewise, the public and investors should study information carefully before making investment decisions when solicited to invest or use investment services of business operators to protect themselves from potential harm in various ways, including falling victim to scams.”
