SEC warns digital asset business operators to comply with the regulations and encourages the public to use services from licensed entities

Tuesday 14 October 2025 | No. 257 / 2025

Bangkok, 14 October 2025 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) urges the public to exercise caution and verify that digital asset business operators are properly licensed before using their services. The SEC also emphasizes regulatory compliance for digital asset business operators when providing digital asset services.

The SEC has found that World app users will receive WLD tokens through an airdrop after registering for the service via the World App and verifying their humanity (Proof of Human) through an Orb device (an iris-scanning machine) located at various points, and several digital asset business operators are servicing these coins.

Mr. Anek Yooyuen, SEC Deputy Secretary-General and Spokesperson, stated: “In this case, the SEC has been closely monitoring the operations of digital asset business operators. We reiterate that all operators providing WLD coin services must comply with regulations concerning servicing digital assets and promotion of their services. They must not violate any laws or support illegal activities. If violations are found, the SEC will take legal enforcement action.”

In cases where service providers exchange digital assets in a manner that constitutes operating a business under Section 3 of the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E. 2561 (2018) without a license under Section 26, penalties under Section 66 may apply. If facts indicate such behavior constitutes an offense, the SEC will consider taking action within its authority.

Furthermore, the public and investors are advised to exercise caution when using services from digital asset business operators who are not licensed under Thai law or regulated by the SEC as they will not receive legal protection and are at risk of being scammed or exposed to money laundering risks.

The public can check the list of licensed business operators at www.sec.or.th or via the “SEC Check First” application, while the list of unauthorized individuals outside the SEC supervision is also available at Investor Alert on the SEC website: https://market.sec.or.th/public/idisc/th/InvestorAlert.
