Yingyos Leechaianan,
Head of Public Policy at Facebook Thailand, said: “Scams
are a growing threat across the internet, impacting everything from dating apps
and online gaming to cryptocurrency platforms and text messaging. At Meta, we
deploy a multilayered approach to combat these sophisticated
criminals—leveraging automated technical defenses, disrupting scam networks,
collaborating with industry and law enforcement partners, and empowering people
with education to spot and prevent scams. Today’s campaign is a strong
testament to the importance of collaboration with government agencies—an
essential step in advancing our shared mission to build a safe, sustainable
online environment.”
This activity builds on
the “Is This Legit?” social campaign, part of a broader APAC-wide activation
rolled out across 17 markets from July to December last year. The campaign aims
to raise awareness of common online scam types and educate users on the importance
of account security tools through a combination of interactive online games, an
integrated online and on-platform campaign, and offline activations. Across the
region, the on-platform paid campaign reached 382 million unique users and
generated more than 2 billion impressions on Facebook and Instagram, with more
than 343,000 users engaging with the game for a total of over 2.74 million
minutes of gameplay. In Thailand, the campaign—supported by six government
partners including the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Ministry of
Digital Economy and Society (MDES), Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), National
Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Electronic Transactions
Development Agency (ETDA), and the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC)—reached over 31 million people and generated more than 130 million
impressions. More than 23,700 users in Thailand engaged with the game, spending
nearly 190,000 minutes learning about different scam types.
The Mystery Mansion of
Scams
At “The Mystery
Mansion of Scams,” participants will embark on an immersive investigation
into the cautionary tale of a young woman, guided by the voice of a black cat
narrator and clues from a ghostly figure. As they unravel the mystery, visitors
will learn to recognize various forms of online scams embedded within the
storyline, including romance scams, investment fraud, impersonation, and other
deceptive schemes that could happen to anyone.
Bangkok Governor
Chadchart Sittipunt said:
“Online fraud is an issue that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has long
prioritized, as it is a close-to-home threat affecting the safety of people in
today’s digital society. Meta’s collaboration in driving awareness through an
accessible and creative initiative like this helps expand public understanding
of online threats in a tangible way. We sincerely thank all partners involved
and hope to see more initiatives like this in the future, working together to
build a Bangkok that is safe both offline and online.”
Yupaporn
Sirikitpanichkul, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital
Economy and Society (MDES), stated, “Today, people are facing
increasingly sophisticated online scams and digital threats, placing everyday
internet users at an inevitably higher level of risk. This underscores the
urgent need for all sectors to work together to strengthen preparedness and
response efforts in a meaningful way. Enhancing digital safety requires strong
collaboration among the public sector, private sector, and online user
communities. This collaboration with Meta helps amplify efforts to raise
awareness and improve scam literacy through creative and accessible approaches.
It also plays a vital role in building a people-powered network that fosters
long-term resilience against online fraud and digital threats.”
Achinee Patmasukon,
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Complaints Center at the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated, “The SEC takes a proactive
approach to protecting investors and the public from fraudulent investment
solicitations. Our efforts focus on providing consultation to help people make
informed decisions before investing or transferring funds, as well as on
building awareness to strengthen investment resilience and enable the public
and investors to recognize and stay ahead of scammers. We also integrate
collaboration across both public and private sectors to develop preventive
mechanisms, enhance scam literacy, and foster a safe and trustworthy online
environment in a sustainable manner—ultimately reducing public losses. These
efforts align with one of the SEC’s key strategic initiatives, Preventive
Anti-Scam for All, which is driven by the 3Cs framework: Consultation,
Communication, and Collaboration.”
