SEC extends public hearing period on the Travel Rule until 9 April 2026

Thursday 26 March 2026 | No. 63 / 2026

Bangkok, 26 March 2026 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has extended the public hearing period on the principles for establishing requirements for receiving and transmitting information accompanying digital asset transfers (Travel Rule) from 15 days to 30 days. The extension is made in accordance with the Cabinet resolution dated 10 March 2026, which requires government agencies to conduct public consultations on policy principles for a period of no less than 30 days, unless there are special circumstances or urgent matters, pursuant to the Act on Legislative Drafting and Evaluation of Law B.E. 2562 (2019).

Following the SEC’s publication of the consultation paper on the principles of the Travel Rule on 10 March 2026, for which the initial public hearing period was set at 15 days (ending on 25 March 2026), the SEC has determined that the matter does not constitute a case involving special necessity or urgency as prescribed by law. Accordingly, the SEC has extended the public hearing period to 30 days in order to comply with the Cabinet resolution.
