SEC supports roles of Thailand Post and modern trade as paying agents for mutual funds

Bangkok, May 9, 2014 ? The SEC supports Thailand Post, Counter Service at 7-11 and other leading retail shops, and Tesco Lotus to be paying agents for investment in mutual funds by this June. With branches across the country, they make the first step in the capital market to facilitate more convenient investment access for everyone. The new paying channels will also serve ?A thousand baht, Start a journey to your dream? Project initiated to raise public awareness in establishing investment discipline by investing at a minimum of 1,000 baht a month to achieve life goals.  

Vorapol Socatiyanurak, SEC Secretary-General, said ?With the current economic and social conditions and the outlook, in particular aging society, everyone needs to understand and realize importance of saving and investment to ensure that his or her investment growth will outpace inflation and to be properly prepared for retirement. As a result, the SEC strategic plan has been implemented to encourage the investing public to have access to the investment suitable to objectives and risk appetite. Aside from products development responsive to lifestyles, the SEC has widened investment channels to promote convenient and continuous investment. At this stage, Thailand Post, Counter Service at 7-11 and other leading retail shops as well as Tesco Lotus will offer paying agent service for investment in mutual fund at every branch across the country. In the future, they might move forward to other capital market businesses; for example, a business of limited broker, dealer and underwriter (LBDU), if they are able to meet with the requirements on registered capital, staff and management and working systems.?

Sukiet Kittitammachote, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs of Ek-Chai Distribution System Co., Ltd. or Tesco Lotus, said ?Tesco Lotus is very delighted to offer a paying agent service to investors intending to invest in mutual funds at 1,770 branches across the country with a fee of 7 baht per bill only. Tesco Lotus believes that this move into the capital market business will provide our customers with even more comprehensive service.?

By June, the paying agents will provide service, during working hours of branches throughout the country, to internet trading clients of asset management companies which are their business alliances.
