SEC and four leading universities co-organize ?SEC Working Papers Forum?

Bangkok, July 9, 2014 ? The SEC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with four leading business schools of Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Kasetsart University and National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) to organize ?SEC Working Papers Forum.? The Forum starting by this month aims to provide a platform for capital market research presentation and knowledge sharing between scholars and capital market executives to boost implementation of those academic papers. 

Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak, SEC Secretary-General said that universities have produced lots of researches beneficial to capital market development. The SEC therefore determines to promote these works and inspire stakeholders in capital market industry, including the Stock Exchange of Thailand, intermediaries, listed companies, fund raisers and investors, to make use of academic works in their real practices. This collaborative effort will certainly provide opportunity and platform for development of quality researches for capital market through the exchange of knowledge and experience between academics and capital market industry.

This MoU will bring about ?SEC Working Papers Forum? for research presentations by four business schools. Each will present key capital market related issues; for instance, ?Saving for Retirement? by Chulalongkorn University, ?Tracking Debentures for Investment in Shares? by Thammasat University, ?Listed Company Assessment? by Kasetsart University, and ?Sustainability Development for Thai Economy and Financial Market? by NIDA. Expected to join the Forum includes faculty members and several institutions in the capital market, such as the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Thai Listed Companies Association, Association of Thai Securities Companies, Associations of Investment Management Companies and Thai Bond Market Association.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pasu Decharin, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University said that Chulalongkorn Business School is delighted to take part in the Forum. The collaboration will help boosting development of academic works and greater knowledge distribution to the public which is beneficial to Thai society. We appreciate the SEC for leading this initiative and trust that this academic networking will benefit academic institutions, private sector, the SEC and the country.

Prof. Dr. Siriluck Rotchanakitumnuai, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Thammasat University said that it is such a privilege and honor to join this academic networking. With contribution from a number of qualified participants both scholars and finance people, we believe that the quality of researches will be continually elevated. In this coming August, Thammasat University will present two research papers concerning tracking debentures for investment in shares.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sasivimol Meeampol, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Kasetsart University said that we appreciate the SEC for inviting us to join ?SEC Working Papers Forum.?  It is such a great opportunity for us to create network on capital market researches with leading universities. We believe that the Forum will support sharing of capital market knowledge to all stakeholders in concurrent with sharpen the Thai capital market?s competitive edge and corporate governance to eventually attain sustainable development.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Viput Ongsakul, Dean, School of Business Administration, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) said that NIDA Business School is honor and humble to join SEC Forum. We hope that this forum will become ?CHANGE? Forum for Thailand in the future. NIDA will celebrate our 50th Anniversary by a practical research on the theme ?Sustainability Development for Thai Economy and Financial Market? which will be the joint research with all Schools in NIDA and foreign scholars. SEC Forum will be the 1st stage for our presentation on this topic.

The 1st SEC Working Papers Forum will kick off on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 on the topic of ?Saving for Retirement? presented by faculty members from Chulalongkorn University at Meeting Room 1601 on 16 Floor at the SEC Office on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road.
