Monday 13 May 2019 | No. 50 / 2019

Bangkok, 13 May 2019 – SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol, Assistant Secretary-General Praoporn Senanarong, and Strategy and International Affairs Director Julawadee Worasakyothin yesterday (12 May) had a meeting with Mr. Paul Andrews, Secretary-General of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), and Mr. Tajinder Singh, IOSCO Deputy Secretary-General, to discuss mutual cooperation for the development and supervision of capital markets.

The SEC Thailand also proposed to be a host country candidate for the IOSCO Annual Conference in 2022 – the year of the SEC Thailand’s 30th Anniversary. The official proposal will be submitted to the IOSCO within 7 June 2019.

The discussion between the IOSCO and the SEC took place at Hilton Hotel in Sydney, Australia during the IOSCO Annual Conference, hosted by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission during 13-17 May 2019.

The SEC candidacy as a host country of the IOSCO Annual Conference 2022 is in line with the National Strategy, which aims to promote Thailand’s presence in the international arena and enhance competitiveness and opportunities of business operators and participants in the Thai capital market. The hosting opportunity would also help to enhance the SEC workforce’s skills and insight.

Currently, IOSCO members are 225 capital market regulators and relevant agencies from 140 countries. On average, an IOSCO annual conference is attended by approximately 600 participants.
