SEC brings DLT projects’ to Global FinTech Fair in Singapore

Bangkok, 11 November 2019 - SEC has brought digital technology projects to join Singapore FinTech Festival 2019 (SFF 2019) at Singapore EXPO in Singapore during 11-13 November 2019. The move was in line with Thailand’s capital markets development plan in promoting Thai SMEs to adjust themselves to technological advancement, while promoting pilot projects to use distributed ledger technology (DLT) for digital infrastructure development in the Thai capital markets. The event witnessed 60,000 attendees from 130 countries worldwide.

SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol said after an opening of SEC booth, chaired by Mr. Saravut Benjakul - SEC Commissioner, together with other SEC Commissioners including Mrs. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Mr. Prasan Chuaphanich and Mr. Viput Ongsakul, Mr. Tevin Vongvanich – Chairman of Sub-Committee on the Capital Market Competitiveness Development, Mr. Jessada Promjart – Sub-Committee on the Capital Market Competitiveness Development, Mrs. Methini Thepmanee – Chairman of Sub-Committee on Digital Strategy of Capital Markets and SEC executives on 11 November 2019, that “SFF 2019 is organized by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). It is one of fintech seminars and exhibitions the world pays attention most. Mr. Ravi Menon, MAS Managing Director, said during the opening ceremony that this year is emphasizing on applying digital technology to help fund mobilization to grow with sustainability and SME’s access into funding sources. Besides, he also gave the definition of fintech in three aspects: innovation; inclusion; and inspiration. There have been as many as 60,000 participants registered from 130 countries worldwide. SEC is one of over 1,000 exhibitors in the event.

“The SFF 2019 is held for the fourth time. SEC has participated in the event by establishing its booth for the first time, aiming to build up international awareness of SEC’s proactive role in promoting technology and innovations for capital market development, enhance work process efficiency, lower business operators’ cost, and increase transparency, creditworthiness and traceability. DLT has been used as Thai capital markets’ digital infrastructure.

“In addition, SEC pays attention on promoting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and venture capital enterprises to keep pace with technology and exploit the capital markets for fund mobilization, according to the government policy and investors’ protection. Within SEC booth, four SMEs joins the exhibit. Of them, Global Prime Corporation and Global Fintech Co., Ltd. represent the Federation of Thai SMEs, while Digio (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and SmartContract (Thailand) Co., Ltd. represents Thai Venture Capital Association. This opportunity is to demonstrate Thai business operators’ potential and capabilities abroad.”

During the morning session of the first day in SEC booth, more than 200 persons were interested and asked for information. Most of them asked about SEC’s role in digital aspect, DLT projects and crowdfunding.
