The video of the story “Parent Taught Me How to Spend” will also be introduced at the event.

SEC is in the process of preparing to open up a booth at the National Children’s Day 2020 event at the Rajvithi Home for Girls on Saturday, 11 January 2020, facilitated by Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS). The theme of the event is “Super Thai Kids Care About Saving”, under which the SEC is one of the attendants to open booths therein, where over 1,000 kids between 6-12 years are expected to attend the event.

SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol said “One of the strategies of the SEC is to raise awareness regarding the significance of long-term savings, and to promote the capital market as an important tool in financial planning. SEC has put in continuous efforts in providing knowledge regarding finance and investment to the investing public, ranging from the working age to the retirement age. Long-term savings must be instilled since a young age, so that they would become responsible in their financial management, and that they would have a habit of saving. By attending the National Children’s Day 2020 event, SEC will hold informative activities for kids for the first time. They are in the age of learning and memorizing, which is an excellent period to understand that saving is a basic skill in life.”

SEC booth will consist of a variety of activities that would teach kids how to spend and save their money, via the game “A Need or A Want?”, which teaches kids and the youth to be able to determine between what are necessities and what are considered luxurious goods. A video of the story “Parents Taught Me How to Spend”, recently produced by SEC, will also be introduced in the event. It follows the story of “Nong Ton Khaw”, the protagonist, who learns about spending and saving, with easily understandable examples for kids to understand about how to spend their money on necessities, as well as instilling the habit of saving up money. Parents can also use the video as a mean to teach their kids about saving up money as well. Furthermore, the booth also provides a questionnaire game and a coloring corner with Captain SEC and Nong Ton Khaw, which promotes creative and artistic skills for children.

Kids and youths who attend SEC booth will get an income and expense book “30 Days, I Can Do It”, for kids to try their hands at recording their incomes and expenses as a starting point towards saving up for their financial goals.
