The 1st SEC Thailand International Digital Asset Webinar to present views of US SEC commissioner Ms. Hester Peirce, academia and foreign professionals on 1-2 November 2021

Bangkok, 27 October 2021 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will host the SEC Thailand’s 1st International Digital Asset Webinar, featuring view sharing on policy and supervision of digital assets by academia, professionals and stakeholders from the U.S.A., Asia and Europe, and an exclusive interview on the directions of digital asset development and supervision with Ms. Hester Peirce, US Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner. The webinar will be held on 1-2 November 2021.

SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol said: “Nowadays, digital assets are used for fundraising and trading. Also, Blockchain innovation and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) are applied to non-financial industries such as energy, arts, entertainment or sports whereby various assets are converted into digital tokens to enhance transaction efficiency and consumer accessibility. Regulators in various countries have expressed views and laid out guidelines for digital asset oversight that vary in degree of strictness.  We take this opportunity to organize the 1st SEC Thailand International Digital Asset Webinar as a forum for welcoming public opinions and learning the perspectives and opinions on digital asset supervision of regulators, academia, business operators and related stakeholders in the international digital asset industry.”   

On 1 November 2021, the first day of the webinar, SEC Secretary-General will give opening remarks at 20.00 hours (local time), followed by a live exclusive interview with Ms. Hester Peirce, US SEC Commissioner, on the topic, U.S. SEC’s Move on Digital Assets,” with Dr. Wit Sittivaekin as moderator. On 2 November 2021 at 13.30 hours (local time), the event will feature a keynote address on the topic, “Policy Choice for Regulating Digital Asset Industry” by Professor Douglas Arner, Kerry Holdings Professor in Law, the University of Hong Kong, and a panel discussion on “Opportunities, Challenges and Barriers of Digital Asset Businesses.” The panelists are Mr. Chia Hock Lai, Co-chairman, Blockchain Association Singapore, Mr. Ian Taylor, Executive Director, CryptoUK, Mr. HaeBoong Lee, Head, Digital Asset Investors Protection Center, Dunamu Co., Ltd. (Upbit Korea), Dr. Manuel Meyer, Partner, and Mr. Christopher Murrer, Associate, Baker McKenzie Zurich.
