Mrs. Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Secretary-General of the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC), participated in a press conference on the progress of the investigation into the memorandum of understanding
(MOU) with foreign investors by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society
(MDES), as well as the special investigation into the
iris scanning case to receive cryptocurrency coins. More than 1.2 million
individuals were deceived and had their iris data—classified as sensitive
personal data—scanned and collected. The press conference was held on 30
January 2025 at the MDES New Building, Government Complex.
Other participants in the press conference included Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruthphol
Naowarat, Minister of Justice; Mr.
Chaiyanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society; Pol. Maj. Gen. Yuthana Phaedam,
Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI); Pol. Capt. Surawut Rangsae, Deputy
Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI); Mr. Wittawat Sukantharos, Director of
the Narcotics Crime Division; Pol.
Col. Surapong Plengkham, Secretary-General of the Personal Data Protection
Committee (PDPC).
The SEC is closely cooperating with relevant agencies to investigate the facts and take
legal action in all aspects of this case, in accordance with the laws under its
authority, with priority given to protecting the public and investors. The SEC
will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation, and if any legal
violations are identified, it will take strict action within its authority to
strengthen confidence and ensure the safety and integrity of Thailand’s capital
market and digital asset ecosystem.
